Being Blessed Through The Tests

The entire first chapter of James is helping us to understand the guiding principles of wisdom as it relates to patience and perseverance. Wisdom is not only for right understanding and believing the promises of God, it is about putting faith and action together. This right understanding of wisdom is crucial when it comes to the trials in life. God promises to bless every person “who preservers under trial…” There is a premise to the promise, however, and a prescription for receiving those blessings. He is blessed “when he has stood the test.” James 1:12 (ESV)

How can we stand strong during the test and endure the trial? We must put the promises of God ahead of the cares of this life. When we do, there is a reward; the “crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.”

Loving God is its own reward but God Himself honors us with the crown of life! This was not a crown of royalty but the wreath placed on the victor’s head in an athletic contest. It was and is the symbol of persevering triumph! In other words, perseverance does not result in salvation, rather it is the result and evidence of salvation and eternal life. So how does “loving God” work practically. Because as you know, it has to be practical to us personally before it gets powerful. Let me give you a three step process that might help heighten your trust factor when tempted or when trials come:
1.Invite Jesus into the room of your temptation or trial
2.Show your love for Jesus as you thank Him and praise Him in your situation
3.Post Scripture and quote it, claiming His promises to help you persevere

“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” Isaiah 26:3 (NLT)
